NMM 2081 - Skedsmo
NMM 2081 Skedsmo is a distinctive space rock featuring enormous platinum nuggets (PGNs) on its surface. The cluster of PGNs is larger than any I have seen on other micrometeorites. The main fragment measures at least 20 microns across, with all six platinum-group elements present in an alloy with nickel and iron.
The elegant, aerodynamic stone is a giant (600µm) barred olivine micrometeorite with magnetite “Christmas tree” crystals scattered across its characteristic striped texture. It has appeared on the front page of newspapers and is featured across two pages (128-129) in the Atlas of Micrometeorites.
PROVENANCE: The catalogue number refers to
the NMM archive, the index of Jon Larsen’s
Project Stardust collection, which is the reference
collection for urban micrometeorites. The stone
was found, curated, and selected by Larsen.
It is in pristine condition, fresh from Space.

SEM/EDS analysis by Jon Larsen. The stone is

specimen and a jewel in any collection.
