  • NMM 2130 Jar is a space oddity. It is a scoriaceous (ScMM) type micrometeorite with vesicles caused by degassing, a partial rim of magnetite, and small sulphide beads on its surface. This rare micrometeorite has undergone only slight heating during atmospheric entry, as shown by its lack of aerodynamic features. The surface tension has just barely moulded it into a semi-spherical shape while it was still semi-liquid. Additionally, this unusual micrometeorite displays several intriguing microtails resulting from escaping volatiles. The stone is known to collectors worldwide from a full-page (234) presentation in the Atlas of Micrometeorites.

PROVENANCE: The catalogue number refers to the NMM archive, the index of Jon Larsen’s Project Stardust collection, which is the reference collection for urban micrometeorites. The stone was found, curated, and selected by Larsen. It is in pristine condition, fresh from Space. VERIFICATION: The MM has been confirmed extraterrestrial by visual identification and/or SEM/EDS analysis by Jon Larsen. The stone is mounted on a durable aluminium/glass/cardboard microslide and is delivered together with a signed Certificate of Authenticity and four photo files. This micrometeorite is a unique museum-quality specimen and a jewel in any collection.
