NMM 2172 - Nordkisa (Ahlsell)
NMM 2172 Nordkisa is one of the most beautiful, barred olivine (BO) micrometeorites I know of. It is known to collectors worldwide from the full-page presentation in the Atlas of micrometeorites on page 109. At 0.6mm, it is a giant, but the stunning feature is the amazing symmetry and proportions. In the front, as shown in the photo, a slightly pointed crystal domain covers approximately one-third of the stone. The lower part is one single, extremely well-shaped domain of olivine (forsterite) crystals, gradually increasing in size, and with interstitial magnetite “Christmas tree” crystals. A jewel in any collection.
PROVENANCE: The catalogue number refers to the NMM archive, the index of Jon Larsen’s Project Stardust collection, which is the reference collection for urban micrometeorites. The stone was found, curated, and selected by Larsen. It is in pristine condition, fresh from Space. VERIFICATION: The MM has been confirmed extraterrestrial by visual identification and/or SEM/EDS analysis by Jon Larsen. The stone is mounted on a durable aluminium/glass/cardboard microslide and is delivered together with a signed Certificate of Authenticity and four photo files. This micrometeorite is a unique museum-quality specimen and a jewel in any collection.
