Micrometeorite NMM 2724 is an olive-green V-type (vitreous, glass) with a large golden nickel-iron bead in the front.
NMM 2724 - Vestby
The metal has triggered a characteristic conical crystallisation of olivine (the magnesium-rich forsterite variety) crystals.
Around the crystalline edge, there is an interesting pit erosion, due to the lower resistance of the glass towards terrestrial weathering, compared with the crystalline area. On the side of the glass ball, there are beautiful iridescent oxidation and Newton rings. A museum-quality rarity from Space!
