NMM 2746 is a beautiful giant of a barred olivine.
NMM 2746 - Nordkisa
NMM 2746 Nordkisa is a barred olivine (BO) micrometeorite with striking aerodynamic features. At approximately 550µm, this specimen is notably large for any collection—a giant micrometeorite. It is complete all around and oriented; the front is at the top in the photo. The texture of the striped olivine (forsterite) crystals is stunning—real beauty. The stone was discovered just after the deadline for the Atlas of Micrometeorites; otherwise, it would have been included there.
PROVENANCE: The catalogue number refers to
the NMM archive, the index of Jon Larsen’s
Project Stardust collection, which is the reference
collection for urban micrometeorites. The stone
was found, curated, and selected by Larsen.
It is in pristine condition, fresh from Space.
