NMM 2798 - An exceptional beauty. The missing link between CC and BO types.
NMM 2798 - Vestby
2798 Vestby is at an ideal intermediate stage between a cryptocrystalline (CC) “turtleback” and a barred olivine (BO) micrometeorite. The large (~400µm) black stone's overall shape is a perfect turtleback, with evenly distributed pyramidal crystal domains throughout. But the ultra-magnification of the SEM image reveals that the surface texture is stripy, and there are abundant magnetite Christmas tree crystals all over. This rarity is a missing link between CC and BO types, and an exceptional beauty.
