  • NMM 2807 Drøbak is my most valuable micrometeorite. It is the world’s first urban I-type—the kind that was once considered impossible to find due to the widespread presence of similar-looking anthropogenic iron oxide spherules in populated areas. However, during my field search #1,033 on 6 November 2020, I identified a large (450 µm) super-elliptic iron oxide spherule with a slightly different lustre than typical industrial iron oxides. The following month, the mystery stone was analysed, and EDS revealed a substantial platinum nugget on its surface—the sole feature confirming it as an urban I-type. This discovery was pioneering, and by examining the surface texture and iridescent oxidation spots, we have since identified a handful of other urban I-types. But this was the very first—a micrometeorite of significant historic importance.

PROVENANCE: The catalogue number refers to the NMM archive, the index of Jon Larsen’s Project Stardust collection, which is the reference collection for urban micrometeorites. The stone was found, curated, and selected by Larsen. It is in pristine condition, fresh from Space. VERIFICATION: The MM has been confirmed extraterrestrial by visual identification and/or SEM/EDS analysis by Jon Larsen. The stone is mounted on a durable aluminium/glass/cardboard microslide and is delivered together with a signed Certificate of Authenticity and four photo files. This micrometeorite is a unique museum-quality specimen and a jewel in any collection.
