NMM 2812 - Drøbak

NMM 2812 Drøbak is a classic porphyritic olivine (PO) micrometeorite with several fascinating features. The glossy black space rock consists mainly of large olivine (forsterite) crystals, some of which display elegant pyramidal shapes, while others exhibit skeletal growth. The large (~350µm) stone has open vesicles resulting from volatile degassing, and several metal and sulfide beads are scattered across its surface.

 

PROVENANCE: The catalogue number corresponds with the NMM archive, which catalogues Jon Larsen’s Project Stardust collection and acts as the reference for urban micrometeorites. The stone originates from Jon Larsen’s private collection; it was discovered, curated, and chosen for Treasures from Space by Larsen. It remains in excellent condition.
