NMM 2813 - Drøbak

NMM 2813 Drøbak is a personal favourite. It is a porphyritic olivine (PO) type with open gas vesicles leading into an internal void, caused by expanding and escaping volatiles. The approximately 250µm stone is composed of translucent, colourless olivine (forsterite) crystals held together by brown glass—an unusual combination. On top of that, it features a beautiful nickel rosette on the surface and small chromites scattered throughout. A stunning space oddity.

 

PROVENANCE: The catalogue number corresponds with the NMM archive, which catalogues Jon Larsen’s Project Stardust collection and acts as the reference for urban micrometeorites. The stone originates from Jon Larsen’s private collection; it was discovered, curated, and chosen for Treasures from Space by Larsen. It remains in excellent condition.
