NMM 2817 - Drøbak

NMM 2817 Drøbak is a giant. The 500+µm cryptocrystalline (CC) micrometeorite is an aerodynamic stone featuring a prominent nickel-iron metal bead at the front, encircled by a partial, shiny sulphide rim. On the side, there is a hole from a lost secondary bead, which has caused a conical crystallisation. The surface texture of this rare micrometeorite is stunning!

 

PROVENANCE: The catalogue number corresponds with the NMM archive, which catalogues Jon Larsen’s Project Stardust collection and acts as the reference for urban micrometeorites. The stone originates from Jon Larsen’s private collection; it was discovered, curated, and chosen for Treasures from Space by Larsen. It remains in excellent condition.
